Assignment #2 10%
Part 1: Video File The Merry Dancers is a Celtic Legend of the Northern Lights When yon lady seeks her lover In the cold and pearly morn, She will find that he has fallen By the hand that she did scorn. She will clasp her arms about him And in her anguish die-- Oh, never again will trip the twain across the Northern Sky! Assignment #2
Part 2: Audio File Simple Gifts "Simple Gifts" is a shaker some written and composed in 1848 by Joseph Brackett. It was performed by Jewel on her 2009 album "Lullaby". I'm not really a pianist, so please forgive the clunky playing and less than ideal mic quality. I found the lyrics online and used the chords for "Lord of the Dance" (same melody) from an old hymnal I had. Click here to link to SoundCloud track Simple Gifts - Jewel (YouTube)

MAJOR PROJECT Computational Thinking
Facilitate an "Hour of Code" to a grade 5 class at Arthur A Leach
https://code.org/dance
Introduction:
March 5 2020 I visited a grade 5 class at Arthur A Leach to facilitate an hour of code. Together with the classroom teacher Mrs. Hiraoka, we chose "Dance Party" as our lesson. She ensured there were enough laptops for every student. We started by watching as a class the introductory video. I gave a quick explanation about how the tutorials work and allowed the students to explore. Over the course of the hour, I visited each student to help them with their project. The most common issue I encountered was students trying to control a dancer that wasn't created it which for all intents and purposes was a variable name issue. (Student created dancer "cat", but trying to control dancer "shark"). Using Hour of Code on Code.org encourages students to think logically. By the end of the hour, most students could recognized were able to debug their project with only a small hint.
In order to gather student feedback, I created an exit ticket that the students filled out to give an idea about what they learned, what they wish they learned and what their favourite part was.
Here are some of the projects created by the students:
