Computer Science Outreach
Description:
In this project, students will develop hands-on workshops approximately 45 minutes in length that will be implemented and facilitated at Gonzaga Middle School based on a variety of computer science concepts. Workshops will fit under one of two categories with sub-categories associated with each. There will be NO repeats of sub-categories. Students in groups of 3-4 will develop the workshop and be assessed on 4 major milestones.

Categories:
Plugged-In (with technology / physical computing)
* all GMS students will have access to a laptop however your activity should NOT require a download of any software.

Unplugged (No Technology)

Milestones:
1. Proposal: Students will develop the idea for their workshop to be approved by Mrs. Latimer. The proposal should include category/sub-category of the workshop, a list of required materials with an estimated budget, a list of group members, and a description of the activity. If this is a physical computing activity, what technology is needed? is there an app that needs to be downloaded? Is the app free? compatible for both iOS and android devices?
2. Project / Lesson Plan: Students will finalize details of the workshop including an approved budget, list of resources, a final a timeline of the tasks, who is assigned for each task, what the GMS students will be doing at each stage and a back-up plan.
3. Implementation: Students will be assessed on the delivery and participation of the workshop. GMS students will be given an opportunity to give feedback.
4: Follow-up/ Reflection: Students will reflect on the project process and implementation. Include lessons learned, what went well, what didn't go well, what would you change,

Journey with Youth / Walking with the Excluded: Our St, Paul's students will facilitate 45 minute workshops and mentor the younger students of Gonzaga Middle School. Further connections will be developed during a shared meal. Students from St. Paul's with be intermingled with Gonzaga students during lunch.
